Earlier this year, my friends and I had a “girls’ day out.” We met for brunch, and then all seven of us climbed into my sister-in-law’s minivan to go to the 2013 Romantic Times Booklovers Convention here in Kansas City! Courtesy of our library cards, we went to the Giant Book Fair event for free! We collected autographs from favorite authors, discovered some new reading material, got our picture taken with some book cover models, and had a fabulous time!
The highlight of my day was meeting one of my very favorite young adult authors, Ally Carter! She was every bit as funny and adorable as the books she writes! Her books are about teenage girls who just happen to be spies or thieves. If you’ve never read I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have To Kill You or Heist Society, you’re missing out!
I enjoy her books too — and so do my students! So many YA (5th-8th grade) books have boys as the central characters. Love having a strong female main character . . .

Ally Carter’s books have been on my TBR list for a while. I can’t wait to start reading them!
