The Christy Awards

I promised a post about my picks for the 2011 Christy awards which were held July 11th.  I’m not including all  categories because I hadn’t read any of the nominees for Contemporary Romance, Contemporary Series, Contemporary Standalone, or Historical.  You can see a complete list of categories, nominees and winners here.  Ok, here goes…

Historical Romance                                                                                                                   Winner = The Girl in the Gatehouse by Julie Klassen                                                                 My pick = She Walks in Beauty by Siri Mitchell

Siri is a fantastic writer.  Her latest, A Heart Most Worthy, was EXCELLENT.

Suspense                                                                                                                                Winner = The Bishop by Steven James

I’m just confessing here that I’m ashamed I haven’t read any Steven James.  Everything I’ve heard says he’s amazing.

First Novel                                                                                                                            Winner = Heartless by Anne ElisabethStengl

I didn’t think Heartless was as good as it’s buzz, but I think I need to read it again and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

Visionary                                                                                                                               Winner = To Darkness Fled by Jill Williamson                                                                          My pick = ???

I can’t decide!  Jill Williamson is really good!   (This is her second win.)  But The Last Christian by David Gregory gave me chills.

*Both From Darkness Hid and the third nominee (Konig’s Fire by Marc Schooley) are both from independent publisher Marcher Lord Press.  Awesome!

Young Adult                                                                                                                         Winner = Motercycles, Sushi, and One Strange Book by Nancy Rue                                    My Pick = The Charlatan’s Boy by Jonathan Rogers

The Charlatan’s Boy was Outstanding.

**For my opinion on the third nominee (The Healer’s Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson) see blog post here.
